One thing that Ilse noticed in her life, is that it was not always easy to find a place that felt like home. Her home was one, of course. It was an overcrowded four bedroom house on a street filled with similar homes, but she loved it. Her bedroom still had two sets of bunkbeds and an old desk- and she still shared it with three of her sisters. Ilse, as well as the rest of her seven siblings were adopted. Their parents were friendly and the kids hated to leave home. Only two boys had moved out and that's because they got married and started families of their own. One of her sisters had a child, and they occupied one of the bedrooms.

So she was shocked that Lady's Janie's home felt like that. There was more space, but it still felt like a home. The couch was comfortable, and the dishes weren't always washed and pictures were up everywhere. Lines were drawn on the wall where Janie had marked Lynn's height (until she was five feet tall, anyway), and the freezer was filled with ice cream. She was always welcome.

That morning, she wandered into the kitchen while holding her new pet friend, Asmodeus. Lynn was laughing, which was good. Ilse loved hearing her girlfriend laugh, especially if she'd been in a dark mood. Lynn was in dark moods a lot, but Ilse could usually get her to feel better.

Then, she saw what was actually happening. Lady Janie was being held against the wall, and Lynn was laughing at her.

Ilse wasn't sure how to stop what was happening. Backing away and going home was cowardly, and she didn't consider herself a coward. Yelling at Lynn was just stupid, especially when she was in a mood. So all she could do was to be herself, and try to diffuse the situation.

"I had the BEST night's sleep last night. Lynn, I am stealing your pillow, can we say COMFORTABLE?" She smiled, because she'd been told that she had a nice one.

"What are you doing here?" Lynn growled, still holding Janie "You don't belong in this house."

"Um, do you even remember last night, I mean we were having a Pretty Good Time, if you know what I mean. And Asmodeus has so adopted me, haven't you, you evil prince of duckness. Oh, I LOVE HIM."

Lynn looked over at Ilse for a few moments, before finally letting go of Janie. "Are you-"

"Staying for breakfast? YES. I am starving, not literally, but a night of shagging will really work up my appetite. Daddy and Ma make us this HUGE breakfast once or twice a month and we know what happened the night before. So usually we get breakfast rolls which are great but I'm around them ALL THE TIME. So, are we having waffles? Those are so delicious. Please say we're having waffles."

"Yes." Lynn said, quietly, watching Ilse. "Did you see anything?"

"I see my girlfriend." Ilse smiled "And I- okay so WE NEED PICTURES. Take Asmodeus, and find outfits, you're great at that, and I'll make the waffles. Lady Janie is going to help but she's not cooking, because I want this to be special for you." She handed the duck to Lynn, and walked towards the stove. "I want this stove! It's brand new."

"I burned the other." Janie said, realizing that the situation was diffused.

"I'm sorry, Ilse." Lynn said, before quickly walking out of the kitchen.

The bubbly blonde took a deep breath, and focused on the stove for a moment. Lynn had scared her, but she knew leaving would only make the situation worse. Clearly, the house wasn't the paradise that she assumed it was.

"Lady Janie. Would you please help me make breakfast?"

"Yes. Were you there the whole time? Do you-" Janie asked, cautiously.

"This isn't my house." Ilse replied, quickly, not wanting to betray the feeling of disappointment that she just experienced. Disappointment and so many other things that she didn't have time to process. "But it's important to Lynn that we all have breakfast together. Family is important to her. So LETS MAKE WAFFLES."

She smiled, because anything else would probably clue Janie and Lynn in to the fact that she was upset. She made waffles, because that's what would calm Lynn down.
